Traces of Light
Medina | Ariadna Canaan
Organized by Disiva
Traces of Light brings the work of Medina and Ariadna Canaan into the urban landscape of Atlanta through a monumental digital billboard. The exhibition considers the relationship between artistic practice, contemporary image culture, and public space, examining how the conditions of display shape the reception of an artwork.
The billboard functions as both an exhibition surface and an architectural presence. Embedded within the city’s visual infrastructure, it situates the works within a field of commercial communication, circulation, and everyday activity. Its use as a platform for art opens a curatorial inquiry into the possibilities of exhibiting beyond dedicated cultural spaces and engaging audiences through an unanticipated encounter.
Within this context, scale, luminosity, and duration become integral to the viewing experience. The works are encountered from varying distances and within the shifting rhythms of urban life. Their reception is shaped by the relationship between screen and surroundings, as well as by the viewer’s position and time of engagement. Public space therefore participates in the exhibition as a condition through which meaning is produced.
The title, Traces of Light, articulates the tension between the image’s visible presence and its impermanence. Light enables the work to occupy the urban field without establishing a fixed material inscription. The trace emerges through perception and memory, extending the encounter beyond the duration of its appearance on screen.
By presenting Medina and Ariadna Canaan within a shared exhibition framework, Disiva establishes a dialogue between two artistic practices and the public dimension of digital display. Traces of Light positions the billboard as a site of cultural engagement, considering the capacity of art to intervene in established patterns of attention and contribute to the visual experience of the contemporary city.
