Susi Sie

Susi Sie (b. 1982) is an Emmy Award-winning artist based in Zurich, Switzerland. Working with analog materials, experimental film and macro photography, she makes subtle physical processes and microscopic structures visible.

Her practice focuses on the behaviour of real substances: textures, movement and fleeting transformations become the subjects of immersive visual experiences. Rather than using computer-generated imagery, she develops her images through direct experimentation with tangible materials and the physical and mathematical forces that shape them.

Sie studied video art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht. She has collaborated with organisations including Netflix, HBO, Porsche and Sony, and contributed to the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Her films and installations have been presented internationally, including at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

In 2023, she received an Emmy for Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction for her contribution to the Netflix documentary A Trip to Infinity. She also teaches workshops, sharing her approach to analog experimentation and moving images.
