Domenico de Chirico is an independent curator born in Terlizzi (Bari), Italy, in 1983. He currently lives and works in Milan, Italy.

After completing classical studies, he graduated with honors in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Bari, where he wrote an experimental thesis in Comparative Art History of European Countries focused on the work of artists Dan and Lia Perjovschi.

He actively collaborates with international artists, galleries, institutions, art fairs, art prizes, and publications worldwide.

From 2011 to 2015, he taught Visual Culture at IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Artistic Director of DAMA – Contemporary Art Fair, Turin. From 2019 to 2026, he was Scientific Board Member and Curator of the “Beyond Photography – Dialogue” section at MIA Photo Fair BNP Paribas, Milan.

In 2017, he curated the second edition of the Club GAMeC Prize, an award established in 2016 to support emerging contemporary art at GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo. In the same year, he was invited to participate in the ARC Bucharest residency programme, designed for international curators to engage with the contemporary art scene in Bucharest, Romania.

In 2018, he participated in the Network Event for Young Curators promoted by LISTE – Art Fair, Basel, Switzerland and served as a jury member for the Arte Laguna Prize, Venice. In the same year, he was a lecturer at FAMU – Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, held a visiting professorship at NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milan, and was a visiting speaker at Goldsmiths, University of London.

In 2020, he was a visiting professor at UMPRUM – Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and was invited as a visiting speaker at the Swiss Institute in Rome, where he returned for a second time in 2022. In the same year, he took part in the “Art Workers” talk series, promoted by IED – Istituto Europeo di Design and Fondazione Merz at ZACentrale, Palermo, focusing on the professions of curatorship, technical production, and communication within the contemporary art field. Subsequently, he held visiting professor positions at N.I.C.E. – Course for Curators of Contemporary Art Exhibitions, Turin (2023), and ABABO – Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (2024).

In 2024, he was Artistic Director of ORTIGIA CONTEMPORANEA – Contemporary Art Festival, Siracusa, Sicily. In the same year, he was appointed Guest Curator for Foundwork, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, promoting, and recognizing contemporary artists worldwide, and served as a jury member for the Premio Fondazione The Bank at ArtVerona 2024. Subsequently, he was a jury member for We Art Open, Venice, in 2025.

During the 2025–2026 academic year, he served as Professor of Phenomenology of Contemporary Art at IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, Milan. In 2026, he collaborated with MUVE – Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia on the occasion of the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, serving on the selection committee of Artefici del

nostro tempo, a competition dedicated to artists under the age of 35. In the same year, he was appointed Visiting Curator at Quiet Art Movement, Delhi, India, where he also serves as European Ambassador. Additionally, he was invited to participate in the Professionals' Tour of Malmö Open Studios (MOS), Malmö, Sweden, an international programme dedicated to curators, museum directors, writers and other contemporary art professionals.

Current appointments include Head Curator of Unseen Photo at Art Rotterdam (since 2026), member of the Selection Committee of SWAB Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair (since 2017), and Curator of the PRISMA Art Prize, Rome (since 2023).

His practice encompasses curatorial, educational and research activities developed in collaboration with public and private institutions, museums, galleries, academies and international organisations operating in the field of contemporary art.
